OMISS had a strong showing at the 2010 Dayton Hamvention.

OMISS BOOTH

The OMISS booth was located in Audio Alley, right next to Heil Sound.
Audio Alley is a very high traffic area, and over 150 folks signed our 'log' when they stopped by.
You can view a scan of the log sheets on the OMISS Forum in the Dayton section
(http://forum.omiss.net - registration required)

About 80% of the visitors were OMISS members, both active and inactive.
Inactive members were encouraged to COME ON BACK to the nets.

Untold numbers of others also stopped by.

Hats off to K0MAF and crew for a job well done.

OMISS DINNER

The inaugural OMISS Dinner at Dayton was declared a success by all in attendance.
Twenty-nine attendees dined on a huge buffet and then endured a presentation or two by K0JDD.
The highlight of the evening was live music provided by K0MAF Jack, KA8III Jim, ND8F Homer and xyl Jesse.

OMISS EYEBALL

Saturday morning at 10:30 (14:30 UTC) saw the latest installment in a series of OMISS Eyeball events.
Held just outside the Ball Arena, about 40 members and guests stopped by to put faces to voices and call signs.

PICTURES
from all of these events are posted in the OMISS photogallery starting HERE.

Those with extra time can view even more pictures (without captions) HERE.

Look for all three of these events to return in 2011.

Greetings OMISS,

At the January 2010 OMISS Board Meeting a couple of items were approved that warrant your attention:

1. The practice of allowing "Up For Grabs" calls during your turn will now be allowed on all OMISS Nets and on all OMISS Bands. Previously this decision was left up to the individual Net Control Station, but for uniformity sake - it has been decided that all bands will allow the practice.

2. PayPal has been approved as an alternate allowed payment option when applying for membership, or when applying for awards. More detailed information will be forthcoming on the website very soon. Please note: there are small processing fees over and above the normal fees for the awards or membership application - and these processing fees will be absorbed by the individuals choosing to use PayPal as their method of payment.

3. OMISS will be applying for a booth at Dayton in 2010. Jack K0MAF is in the rapid process of gathering details - and is seeking input from the membership at large. If you have input, or are planning to attend and would like to volunteer to help, please contact Jack. Deadline to apply for a booth is early February... so Jack is in a very hot seat at the moment. Please send him your ideas/info, or interest in volunteering.

I hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start!

73,
Greg AE9W
OMISS President

On December 14, 2009, the OMISS Board of Directors conferred upon AC0OF, Daniel Miller, OM#4039 and WE0A, Jeffrey Hundstad, OM #5694, the Joe Fish Meritorious Service Award.

AC0OF, Dan has dedicated untold hours, over the span of many years, to operating the OMISS QSL Bureau. The speed and efficiency of this operation are unequaled. Anyone who has ever sent or received QSL cards from the bureau knows what a wonderful resource it is and owes a deep debt of gratitude.

Congratulations Dan!

Note: Dan has been a Permanent VIP since 2005 when he was named OM Of The Year. His VIP status remains unchanged.

WE0A, Jeff has dedicated his time and IT talents in the area of Database and Web programming for the OMISS web site and membership database. Jeff’s contributions span the past several years and continue on to this day.

Congratulations Jeff!

Note: Jeff now becomes a Permanent OMISS VIP and as such can be worked for the VIP award on any OMISS net.

Here is something every OMISS member should be proud to own and display.

We asked Bill K5YRT at www.hamplaques.com if he had ever considered offering an OMISS organizational plaque and he came up with a really nice product offering that you can purchase on the web at: http://hamplaques.com/o-omiss.htm

This is something you can even ask the XYL to buy for that "Ham that has everything." (i.e. you) it is fairly priced, it doesn't take up a lot of space, and it is100% guaranteed not to cause TVI, hi hi. Click on the image above for a larger view...

OMISS has nothing to do with the pricing or payment, so please direct any of those questions to Bill K5YRT.
